For over a quarter of a century The Fresh Sourdough Express has been serving the Homer community and travelers from around the globe. The Bakery and Café has a warm, homey feeling and the friendly service reflects the loyalty that the employees bring to the table. The friendly ambiance and flavor of this establishment is reflected by the values that the owners, Donna and Kevin Maltz, share and have brought to their business practices. Since the creation of this delicious, growing concept, the owners have always embraced the concept of  running a socially responsible establishment. Taking the principles of recycling, waste management, energy saving solutions, water-saving systems, biodegradable packaging, and employee education seriously has always been part of the Restaurant's ethics.

The Fabulous Homemade Baked Goods and Sourdough Breads are made fresh daily on location. The full-line of bakery products are made from original handcrafted recipes. You can choose from any of the mouth watering temptations such as, the famous Grizzly Bear Brownies, Moose Fudge Cake, Puffin Muffins, and Otter Bar Shortbread. Don't miss the sell-out Massive Buns or our mouth-watering Snowball Cookies. Eat them at the Café or take them to go on one of your Alaska adventure excursions.

Breakfast Time
  Here are a few delicious ways to start the day at the Fresh Sourdough Express. Enjoy one of our fabulous healthy, hardy homemade breakfasts. Choose from any of our scrumptious offerings; Sourdough Pancakes, Sourdough Biscuits and Gravy, local Reindeer Scrambles, Organic Mushers’ Mush hot cereal or our Organic Caribou Crunch Granola. If the finely tuned breakfast menu does not meet your palate that day, then you can check out the creations in the bakery case or the daily special board. The fresh Bread Pudding, pastries and fabulous plump muffins stuffed with cheesecake are hard to resist.

Lunch Time
 Moving into the afternoon, the menu entices you with many palate teasers. Choose from our famous Alaskan Seafood Chowder, savory filled baked goods, Reindeer Grills, Halibut Hoagies, Alaskan crab & seafood specials, and natural meats cooked to perfection. The Buffalo Burgers, Spinach Croissants, and Signature Pizzas are some of the best sellers. Organic and all natural ingredients make all the meals special.

Dinner Time
As stated in the well respected Frommer's Guide; “The evening menu includes many specials and elaborate dishes, including huge portions of local seafood with rich sauces. And perhaps more remarkably, simple, solid choices for those who don't want to spend a lot (in fact, all the prices are reasonable). This is a great place for a family, as the atmosphere is relaxed and the service warm, and there is a big sandbox and an old van out front where kids can play while you wait for your meal.”
